Woman buys £16 wedding dress on Vinted and is stunned by what arrives in the post

A woman who recently got engaged decided to take a gamble on a secondhand wedding dress she saw on Vinted, and was left stunned when she saw what arrived in the post

Shopping on Vinted can be a reliable way to snag a bargain. Pre-loved selling platforms like Vinted and eBay allow everyday people to offload items they no longer need, whilst offering buyers the opportunity to discover vintage garments and accessories no longer stocked in stores.

You can purchase virtually anything imaginable from these pre-owned platforms, provided someone’s selling it, and one woman on social media recently snapped up an item most wouldn’t consider buying from a stranger online. She decided to splash out just £16 on a wedding dress on Vinted, aware it would either prove an incredible steal or a total catastrophe.

Bernadette Hagans became engaged several months ago and has now begun organising her wedding, including browsing wedding gowns. Whilst wedding dresses are typically exceptionally costly, not everyone wishes to spend a fortune on a dress they’ll wear just once, and there’s a thriving market on pre-owned platforms for discounted wedding dresses.

Most wedding dress advertisements on sites like Vinted still exceed £200, though, so when Bernadette managed to spot one for merely £16, she seized the opportunity to purchase it and discover whether it matched the description.

She revealed that the seller had kept the advertisement live for approximately 10 months because she “wasn’t really sure about who to sell it to”, but eventually agreed to let it go to Bernadette.

When the delivery turned up on her doorstep, and she unwrapped it, she wasn’t entirely certain what to anticipate, but was utterly amazed when she unveiled the package to discover the beautiful white dress.

She remarked: “This brand of dress I saw other people selling for a few hundred [pounds], so the fact that I got this for £16 is just insane. I already know I love it.”

The outfit was in fact a two-piece ensemble consisting of a skirt and a corset top. However, the skirt featured one distinctive element – it includes removable layers, allowing you to modify the length to match your preference. The skirt was a sweeping white fabric that extended longer at the rear than the front, and Bernadette described the piece as “class”.

But the “star of the show” for the future bride was the corset, which was adorned with diamond patterns and delicate flower decorations, each featuring a sparkly diamante jewellery element at the centre.

Bernadette shared: “I have an idea of how I would wear this. I would have the skirt made into a mini. Sort of flowing like the petals of a flower. And then this [the corset]. And I would want the excess material [from the skirt] made into a scarf.”

The woman didn’t reveal whether she intends to wear the £16 dress as her actual wedding gown, but those commenting on the post were eager to share their own stories of purchasing wedding dresses online at knockdown prices.

One person remarked: “My wedding dress was a second-hand prom dress off Vinted for £20! I loved it so much.”

Another commented: “My wedding dress was the one I fell in love with before I got engaged. It was a sample dress and cost me a whopping £25! I was in heaven!”

A third posted: “Mine was £25 from Shein. I had to sell my original dress due to getting pregnant and bought this two weeks before. Had to go stretchy because the bump was bumping!”
