NEED TO KNOW

  • The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri as Carmy and Sydney, two chefs turning a sandwich shop into a fine dining restaurant
  • Season 4 of The Bear premiered in full on Hulu on June 25
  • The FX series has yet to be renewed for a fifth season

The Bear is a 10-course meal — complete with family drama, culinary prowess and sweet silver linings.

Created by Christopher Storer, the FX series follows a brilliant young chef named Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) as he transforms his late brother’s Chicago-based sandwich shop into a fine dining restaurant.

But he doesn’t go on this journey alone — he brings along the sandwich shop’s former employees, including his cousin Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), chef Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), pastry chef Marcus (Lionel Boyce) and sous chef Tina (Liza Colón-Zayas).

The misfit staff sets their sights on a Michelin star, but as audiences saw in seasons 3 and 4, the latter of which premiered on June 25, the road to culinary perfection is anything but smooth, marked by mounting pressure, personal sacrifices and the constant threat of implosion behind the kitchen doors.

So will there be a season 5 of The Bear? Here’s everything we know so far about potential new episodes of the hit drama series.

In the final episode of season 4 of The Bear, Carmy announces his decision to step away from the restaurant once the business stabilizes or achieves a Michelin star.

He reveals to Sydney that he no longer finds joy in cooking and feels disconnected from his passion. Prior to this conversation, Carmy secretly removed his name from the restaurant’s partnership agreement.

Sydney is initially shocked and angry, but ultimately steps up to lead the restaurant, proposing to include Richie as a partner alongside her and Carmy’s sister, Natalie (Abby Elliott).

The episode concludes with Carmy confessing to Richie that he did attend his late brother’s funeral but couldn’t bring himself to go inside, providing a long-awaited revelation that deepens their understanding of each other’s grief.

When Natalie joins the conversation and learns of Carmy’s plans, she hugs her brother, giving him silent permission to leave.

With Carmy’s departure looming, the finale leaves audiences questioning the next chapter for both the characters and The Bear.

As of now, The Bear has not been renewed for a fifth season.

When Variety asked FX chairman John Landgraf about the show’s future in July 2024, he simply said, “We really don’t know.”

Landgraf went on to explain that the decision to end the series with season 4 or proceed with a fifth season was entirely up to Storer.

“These decisions are really creative decisions,” he continued. “It’s about how much more story does [Storer] have to tell? I mean, obviously, I’m hoping he has more … You just have to follow the creative.”

In July 2024, Colón-Zayas told RadioTimes.com that she’d love to see The Bear continue for “at least another five years,” but admitted that the future felt “fragile.”

“There’s that line that Richie had in the beginning, like, ‘It is a delicate ecosystem.’ And I think that as long as that is inspired and nurtured, then we’ll have the magic that we have. So that’s more important,” she continued.

That same month, Moss-Bachrach spoke with The Telegraph, saying, “I feel like we’re getting near to the end of The Bear. It seems like that story is wrapping up to me.”

The actor went on to admit that he’ll miss playing Richie once the show comes to an end.

“[He’s] very dear to me,” Moss-Bachrach said.
