If you’ve been playing Hollow Knight: Silksong for a little while, you likely already know that the game has more secrets than you can imagine. Some of these are just hidden pathways behind breakable walls, while others are inaccessible areas either due to a lack of certain abilities or a key.
You can find a few such areas hidden behind Simple locks all across the map, and you’ll need to expend one Simple Key to open each one of these. There are a total of four Simple Keys and locks around Pharloom, and here’s how you can get to each one.
Where To Find Every Simple Key
Simple Keys in Hollow Knight: Silksong can be identified by their rusty look and three bronze rings in a triangular pattern at the top. Here’s how you can get them all:
Simple Key Location One
The first Simple Key can be found quite early in the game, and all you have to do to get it is cross the Moss Grotto area. Once you get away from the green lands, you’ll reach a civilization called the Bone Bottom, where you can talk to your first vendor, called Pebb.
As you browse Pebb’s wares, you’ll find a Simple Key among them for 500 Rosaries. Of course, you can’t get that amount of Rosariers in the early game unless you farm the pilgrim mobs in The Marrow, but you won’t need this Simple Key for quite a while as well.
Simple Key Location Two
The second Simple Key can be found in the Sinner’s Road area, which you can reach through the top middle of Greymoor. If you’ve already reached this area, you can also have a shortcut elevator to it from Halfway Home. After entering Sinner’s Road, go straight to the right in the first room until you reach the next one.
In the second room, you have to climb straight up, which is much easier if you have Clawline and Faydown Cloak. You can also get the Sinner’s Road map from Shakra in the room to the left as you climb up. Once you reach the top, you’ll have paths diverting in both directions, and you have to take the one on the right.
You can downward strike the circular spikes in this area to get a jump boost.
Continue to the right until you reach the next room, and then you must climb straight up to retrieve the key. You’ll have to wall hop between a bunch of spikes, and once you reach the top, your path will be blocked and you’ll have to defeat a big mob. After defeating the mob, you can get the key from its body.
Simple Key Location Three
The third key can be acquired in the Sands Of Karak region above Blasted Steps, though you at least need the Clawline ability to get here, with Faydown Cloak also being recommended. Once you have the ability, move to the very left area of Blasted Steps till you see a conch icon on the map. From here, you can Clawline to the top left and enter the sands.
In the Sands Of Karak area, you’ll first have to go up a bit and then go through two big rooms filled with mobs and temporary platforms. You can create these platforms by hitting the orbs sitting on tree stumps. After getting through these two rooms, you’ll find a bench with a pilgrim’s body on the right edge.
Once you beat the first room, it’s recommended to fall down and use the Blasted Steps bench as a save point.
You’ll see a shiny object on this body, which will give you the third Simple Key.
Simple Key Location Four
The final Simple Key of Hollow Knight: Silksong can be found in the Songclave area of Choral Chambers once you activate the First Shrine. As you activate this shrine, you’ll unlock a new wishboard in this area with the Wandering Merchant wish. After completing this wish, Jubilana will appear in Songclave as a vendor.
You can buy the Simple Key from Jubilana for 650 Rosaries. If you need to farm these Rosaries, you can head over to the top left exit of Songclave and constantly farm the big Reed guards around the Cogwork Dancers fight.
Where To Find Every Simple Lock
Now that you know all four places to get Simple Keys, here are all the locations you can use them in and what you can get as a reward:
Simple Lock Location One
You’ll find your first Simple Lock quite early in Hollow Knight: Silksong, and all you have to do for it is reach the Deep Docks biome after beating The Marrow. After entering this area through The Marrow, you can keep moving right while falling down whenever you get the chance. As you take the exits on the right, you’ll eventually reach the door after a small jump.
If you’ve already explored Deep Docks, the location for this lock is right below the blacksmith vendor. After opening it, you can early access an area of Deep Docks that you’d only be able to access through Far Fields otherwise. However, this area is quite difficult, and it’s not recommended during the early game.
It might be better to save your Simple Keys for other areas since you can get better rewards there.
If you access the secret Deep Docks area with this key, you can get various items like Craftmetal, Flea, and Spool Fragment in it.
Simple Lock Location Two
The second Simple Lock can be found in the Wormways biome as you progress across the map of Silksong. The easiest way to get to Wormways is by going to the Shellwood Bellway and then jumping down the hole at the start of Blasted Steps on the left. Stick to the left wall after this jump and you’ll find the Wormways entrance.
In this area, keep moving down and to the left until you reach a big vertical room with metal platforms. In this part, move down and go through a smaller gap to see the door on the left. Opening this door will give you access to the main portion of Wormways where you can get the following items:
- Sharpdart Silk Skill
- Alchemist’s Assistant wish
- Memory Locket
- Wanderer Crest in the Bone Bottom area after you jump to it from this part of Wormways.
Simple Lock Location Three
The third Simple Lock can be found in Sinner’s Road, which is the same biome where you found a key as well. After entering this biome, head to the right from the first room again and you’ll see a green NPC right above you at the entrance of the next room. You’ll have to go up and around if you want to reach the lock caging the Green Prince here.
While freeing Green Prince won’t help you much during the early game, it’ll help you unlock an entire biome of Verdania towards the late game after you reach Act Three.
Simple Lock Location Four
The final Simple Lock can be found in the High Halls biome, and it’s difficult to miss this one if you’ve been through the area. It can be found at the very end of the biome as you exit the room with the bench and the Ventrica from the left. Keep heading to the left and you’ll see a locked room on a small platform above.
After entering this room, move a bit to the right and you’ll see a breakable ceiling above you. Break this and go all the way around to reach the middle room, which contains a ton of Rosaries. As you clear these Rosaries, jump from the bottom exit of this room and you can find the Rosary Cannon tool in the hidden chambers below.
