In your journey through the war-torn lands of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, you’ll encounter a diverse cast of characters, but few are as unique or as useful as the mechanical marvel, Construct 8. It’s a very powerful unit with some of the simplest yet effective offensive options in the game.

Whether you’re a seasoned veteran looking for an edge or a newcomer seeking to build the ultimate team, adding this ironclad ally to your ranks is a strategic move you won’t regret. Of course, there are a few things you’ll need to do before you can add it to your squad.

How To Recruit Construct 8

To recruit Construct 8, you’ll first need to progress through the story to Chapter 4. Once there, you must complete the first short side quest that lets you recruit Beowulf and Reis the Holy Dragon. Part of this side quest will introduce you to Construct 8’s body.

Once you’ve completed Beowulf’s quest and recruited him, return to the Clockwork City of Goug. The cutscene that plays here will be your prompt to recruit Construct 8; just make sure you accept it into your party after the cutscene.

Whether or not you wish to use Construct 8 is unimportant if you wish to recruit some of the other special characters in the game – it may be required in order to recruit Cloud and to turn Reis into her human form.

Construct 8 is well worth the effort to learn to use, though.

  • Dispose is one of the most powerful attacks in the game thanks to its incredible range, and the fact that it has a permanent Atheist status effect makes it impervious to magic damage, which becomes incredibly threatening in the later portions of the game.
  • It can also be used by other units to hop up to tall ledges, which is helpful to get some hard-to-reach treasure (such as the one in Nelveska Temple!).
