Tiffany Haddish had some good hearted fun at the expense of Jennifer Lopez after her risqué opening number at the 2025 American Music Awards.
Lopez, 55, began the Monday, May 26, awards show at Fontainebleau Las Vegas by singing a snippet of her own song “Dance Again” before transitioning into a medley of recent hits, including Chappell Roan‘s “HOT TO GO,” Tinashe‘s “Nasty” and Morgan Wallen and Post Malone‘s “I Had Some Help.”
At one point during the performance, Lopez kissed a few of her backup dancers before continuing on with the impressive opening number.
“Our host has just danced to 23 hits in six minutes,” Haddish, 45, said before presenting an award immediately after Lopez’s performance. “Just from that opening number alone, Jenny From the Block has got all her steps in for the day and she got all her kisses in.”
Haddish continued “Save a dancer for me, J. Lo! Damn. You ain’t the only one out here single.”
Lopez finalized her divorce from Ben Affleck in January after filing the paperwork in August 2024. The couple got married in July 2022 after previously getting engaged in 2002. (Lopez and Affleck, 52, broke things off the first time in 2004.)
In April, Lopez was tapped to host and perform at the 2025 AMAs. This is her second time hosting the ceremony after first doing so in 2015, while she has taken the AMAs stage to perform more than 10 times during her career.
While preparing for this year’s AMAs, Lopez suffered a facial injury during rehearsals, showing a cut across the bridge of her nose in Instagram Story photos on May 13. “So … this happened,” she wrote of the wound, which she iced in one image.
In a subsequent slide, Lopez thanked Beverly Hills facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond “for stitching me up” in the aftermath of her accident. “A week later and a whole lotta ice, I’m good as new,” she added.
Days later, Lopez posted a behind-the-scenes video of herself practicing a complicated dance routine for the AMAs alongside her backup dancers. “Getting ready… #JLoLiveIn2025 @AMAs,” she captioned the May 15 Instagram post.
Lopez’s AMAs hosting gig comes amid an especially busy period in her life. In June, she will be headlining the World Pride Music Festival in Washington, D.C., and she will be touring the globe in July and August, with concerts scheduled in Egypt, Spain, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, Poland, Romania, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan and Armenia. She is also gearing up for the release of her film Kiss of the Spider Woman in October, shooting her upcoming movie Office Romance with Brett Goldstein and is in preproduction for The Last Mrs. Parrish, Netflix’s film adaptation of Liv Constantine’s 2017 novel.
“J. Lo is starting to feel like herself again. She’s making sure she is happy and that she’s being a good mom,” a friend of Lopez exclusively told Us Weekly in February, referencing her and ex-husband Marc Anthony’s 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme.
Work has been a “good distraction” for Lopez as of late, the friend added, noting that she is “being selective” about her projects and focusing on “quality over quantity.”
With Lopez “focusing on herself” in recent months, the friend told Us that she “isn’t ready to date again just yet,” but she “still believes in love” because she’s “a romantic and always will be.”
