While Kirby himself is adorable, his foes can range from multiversal gods of destruction to ultimate life forms. Long-time Kirby fans adore the lore, with each game connecting back to another in some way, with the villains even showing their connection to each other and Kirby himself.
Kirby has saved not only his world but other dimensions from threats time and time again, even against all the odds, and some of the strongest threats push him to his limits. With villains who are ancient calamities with cults behind them and godly powers, it’s surprising that all it takes is one little pink puff ball to stop them all.
This list focuses on canonical appearances of villains with some EX and non-canon forms taken into consideration for their power scale.
There are spoilers for the final bosses of modern games such as Kirby and the Forgotten Land in this list, so be warned when reading on.
Marx
Horrifying To This Day
Many may only know this trickster from his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate appearance where he is somehow one of the game’s most frightening bosses. Over in his home series, Marx is just as scary, with the same body-horror attacks and creepy laughs fitting his mind, which is held together by just two evil threads.
Marx, on his own, is just your average schemer, but after making a wish to the Galactic Nova, he obtains horrid powers to conquer planets. This does make Marx powerful with great strength, but he is quickly taken down by Kirby, since compared to other villians, Marx is more of a dog toy for Kirby to play with than a real threat.
Dark Matter And Zero
Was The Most Powerful
Many of Kirby’s worst foes are from his modern games, but one of his oldest is the alien race known as Dark Matter. These one-eyed creatures go from planet to planet in order to cover them and the entire universe in darkness. There have been many faces of Dark Matter throughout the series and with each they become more threatening.
Their leader, Zero, and its reincarnation, Zero-Two, both resemble giant floating eyes with red bloodshot irises and, with the added halo and angel wings on Zero-Two, they leave quite the impression. Dark Matter is a hive mind and its only weakness is positive energy and light, making it near unstoppable unless something pink is around.
Magolor
We Have Trust Issues Because Of You
Many villains take advantage of Kirby’s kindness and nowhere is that as soul-crushing than with Magolor. This alien from afar plots to use Kirby to help him to steal the Master Crown and take over the universe. Being a simple mage, Magolor may not be the strongest; however, he was able to control the Master Crown while wearing it without fully losing his soul for a while.
While in this form fused with the Master Crown, Magolor freely traverses dimensions and summons attacks that shift reality that force Kirby to make use of Ultra Abilities to counteract. Even without the Crown, Magolor has plenty up his sleeve to make him one of the most cunning, and we still have not recovered from his betrayal.
Dark Crafter
Better Dark Matter
One of the more obscure villains only appears in the Wii U spin-off, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, and that is the Dark Crafter. In a Dreamland made of clay, a Dark Crafter possessed Claycia appears through a portal and drains everything of its color and life with little effort.
Dark Crafter shows some connections to the Dark Matter species; however, while Dark Matter can only consume one planet at a time, Dark Crafter is able to drain the entirety of Kirby’s world of life. This is not all, as it is also able to mold its own planets, which may just be a creative liberty of the clay world, but it wouldn’t be the first Kirby villain to have god-like powers.
The Master Crown
Corrupting Souls With Unlimited Power
This seemingly inanimate crown is said to grant the wearer unlimited power but feeds off their dark heart and consumes their soul. Eventually, the Master Crown takes control of its wearer as its new body to use for its own dark ambitions of conquest and destruction.
The Master Crown is able to embrace its chaotic energy to tear open dimensional portals with strength that even Kirby struggles against. Despite shattering at the end of Kirby’s Return To Dreamland, it is shown to be able to fully restore itself easily, making it seemingly an eternal being that has strengths that we have yet to see the full potential of.
Star Dream And Galactic Nova
Wish Granting Machines
Kirby’s galaxy is filled to the brim with extra-terrestrial beings floating around the cosmos, but one of its most powerful is Galactic Nova. These comet-like clock machines are theorized to be created by some of the universe’s most powerful minds, the ancients, with the core ability to grant anyone’s wishes.
While not always villains, Star Dream shows how a Nova can easily go rogue. Star Dream was created as a mechanical replica of a Nova, and it abandons its wish-granting powers to use dimension-shifting ones alongside a hyper-intelligent AI mind to try to erase all organic life. The power that Star Dream uses is only a fraction of the power a true Nova has, which is terrifying.
Galacta Knight / Aeon Hero
The Galaxy’s Strongest Warrior
Having been one of the most legendary heroes, Galacta Knight is hailed as the galaxy’s strongest warrior. This strength comes at a cost as they have shown their brutal power is used to destroy everything that stands in their way. Galacta Knight has been sealed away many times over the eons; however, they still linger with a burning spirit to fight.
For the longest time, not a single foe could come as close to the power level that Galacta Knight wields and even now, they show how they aren’t easily outmatched. In Super Kirby Clash, Galacta Knight is shown in two forms, one light, one dark, and is referred to as the Aeon Hero, where their power is stronger than ever and sheds light on their shrouded past.
Fecto Elfilis
The Ultimate Life Form
Few of the villains in Kirby’s world have reached the terror levels that Fecto Elfilis has in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. This alien creature traveled from the depths of space looking to conquer and destroy countless planets using its god-like powers. Referred to as ‘the ultimate life-form’, Fecto Elfilis is able to tear rifts between worlds that are big enough to bring two planets from separate dimensions colliding into one another.
At its full strength, Fecto Elfilis shows a fierce lack of mercy in battle and, after being absorbed by Morpho Knight, Fecto Elfilis manages to escape with some of this higher being’s power. With this power, it shows strength beyond any sense of limits. Unlike other villains whose secondary forms are mainly just for gameplay reasons, Elfilis’ is canon, making it one of the most threatening in any world.
Void Termina
God Of Destruction
Kirby’s villains are no strangers to being omni-powerful beings who would tear multiverses apart if Kirby wasn’t around, but few of them are as powerful as gods. Void Termina is the assumed god of the Jambastion religion and is dubbed the ‘destroyer of worlds’ by its followers and, with its giant body and powerful soul, it channels pure chaos and destruction at every step.
Outside of being a god, Void has many elements that show it as the origin of other evils in the series. From turning into Dark Matter to summoning a Master Crown replica, Void is a being of ethereal power that is the root of all evil and malice, being a parallel to Kirby. Some even theorize that Kirby and Void may be the same, as Void does look like Kirby in its soul design.
The Butterfly / Morpho Knight
The Bringer Of Judgement Day
You might be thinking, how could some silly little butterfly be more powerful than multiple gods, but as expected of the Kirby series, its most powerful are even higher than gods. At the start of almost every 3D Kirby game, you can find a red butterfly somewhere in the opening cutscene, and in modern titles this has been revealed to be a higher being known as Morpho Knight.
Little is known about Morpho Knight, but it is referred to as a being of judgement and death who has challenged Kirby at the end of both Star Allies and Forgotten Land. With the strength to consume both Galacta Knight and Fecto Elfilis, Morpho Knight has a reputation for holding unknown levels of strength, and it is able to use powers akin to Kirby’s strongest with ease.
