As far as fighting games are concerned, Street Fighter received a new entry with Street Fighter 6, Tekken got a revival with Tekken 8 and even Marvel vs. Capcom made a comeback via the Arcade Classics Collection. But when it comes to Soulcalibur, things have been less stellar.
For fans of the “Tale of Souls and Swords,” there hasn’t been a new entry since October 2018, and despite some mysterious teases, it doesn’t look like we’re getting a new game anytime soon.
At the very least, Soulcalibur III will be making its way to modern hardware via the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog at some point before the end of the year. However, it doesn’t sound like Trophies will be coming with it.
In a post re-confirming the news, the official Soulcalibur Twitter account noted that the game will be available à la carte and playable on either PS5 or PS4, but did not mention any word on Trophies, which some in the comments took as a sign that they won’t be coming.
Of course, we’ll have to wait until its release to officially know one way or the other. But it wouldn’t be the first time that Trophies didn’t launch with a game on PS Plus Classics.
PlayStation Plus Classics Has A Spotty Trophy History
To this point, several titles that have been added to the Classics library have been added without any Trophy support whatsoever, including some massive additions like Resident Evil 2 and 3, as well as Tekken 2 and 3.
That last part doesn’t bode too well for Soulcalibur’s release, seeing as Bandai Namco is also the team behind Soulcalibur as it is for Tekken.
Then there are games that didn’t launch with Trophy support only to add it post-launch. Those titles have included the Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, which added lists for both the PS4 and PS5 copies of the game, as well as Up. Suffice to say, it’s a bit of a messy situation for Trophy hunters.
