These sanitation workers have their system down to a T — even accounting for human error from those putting out their bins each week — but a single complaint put them off their normal routine.
What would we ever do without sanitation workers? Sometimes, when trash collectors commit to striking for a week or 2, humanity finds out exactly what the cost is. Trash piles up surprisingly quickly. Rats and bugs have a field day as they crawl around the huge piles of plastic bags, munching on people’s leftover food scraps. It’s a modern-day miracle that we have trash collectors who work so tirelessly and effectively to take our many bags of garbage to dumps. Without them, society wouldn’t look — or smell! — nearly as nice as it currently does. But that doesn’t stop some people from looking down on these workers with disdain, as if they aren’t doing a physically demanding job that’s essential to life as we know it.
We take these things for granted at times. After all, in some rural places, trash pickup isn’t offered. People have to take all of their trash to the dump on their own terms, and may even have to pay to dump their garbage into the landfill. Weird as it may seem, trash collection is a privilege. If you’ve always had this privilege, you might take it for granted. That’s exactly what happened to this one woman, and the trash collectors of her neighborhood taught her an unforgettable lesson in humility.
