Summary
- Resident Evil Requiem was announced during Summer Game Fest, with a reveal trailer introducing new character Grace Ashcroft.
- Grace looks to be fairly important to the story, but insider Dusk Golem has reiterated that Leon Kennedy is still the game’s main character, and that we’ll play as him “far more” than Grace.
- They also claim that Raccoon City is “not the primary setting” for Resident Evil Requiem, and that it’s just a place that we’ll visit throughout the game.
After baiting us a couple of times and being far more coy than they needed to be, Capcom finally put us all out of our misery during Summer Game Fest by announcing Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline installment in the series. Before the show, it had been claimed by reputable Capcom insider Dusk Golem that Resident Evil Requiem would star Leon Kennedy, but the game’s first trailer suggested anything but.
Instead, the reveal trailer seemed to focus on a character called Grace Ashcroft, who is the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak star Alyssa Ashcroft. It even has a mysterious man in a chair – who we can assume will be a villain of some kind – claiming that Grace Ashcroft is “the one that I’ve been searching for” and the “special one”.
Resident Evil Requiem Will Feature Leon Kennedy “Far More” Than Grace Ashcroft
Despite all of this, Dusk Golem is still pretty adamant that Leon Kennedy is considered the main character of Resident Evil Requiem, and that we will play as him “far more” than Grace Ashcroft. They also claim that Leon is actually in the Resident Evil Requiem trailer, though it’s not entirely obvious, and that the game’s focus on Leon will become more apparent in future marketing.
Interestingly, Dusk Golem also goes on to make another claim that seems to be counter to what was shown in Resident Evil Requiem’s trailer. In response to a Twitter user complaining about seemingly going back to Raccoon City, Dusk Golem claims that it is “not the primary setting”, and that it will simply be a place that is visited throughout the course of the game.
Of course, that now makes you wonder exactly where the game will be set, or whether it will go full Resident Evil 6 and have us traveling all over the place. It was rumored that Resident Evil 9 wouldn’t play like the more modern Resi titles, or even the remakes, as Dusk Golem claimed the game will be a “big reinvention” for the series. We’ll only find out what that means when we get more info about the game, presumably later this year.
