I saw this list online and, looking for an excuse to not work on a script I need to work on, decided to check off the places where I’ve eaten at least once. The ones with a green checkmark are ones I would go back to without hesitation. The ones with a blue checkmark, I’d go back to if I needed to eat and there was no better place around. The ones with a red checkmark, I would go hungry before I’d go back to them. The ones with no checkmark, I never went to…
Some explanations…
I would not go back to Cinnabon, Krispy Kreme and Baskin-Robbins (yes, it’s spelled wrong) because some years ago, I stopped eating sugary food items and when I last patronized these places, I didn’t see anything I would now eat. Dunkin Donuts gets a green check because while I would not eat one of their donuts, I once had a terrific non-sugary breakfast sandwich at one of their outlets in a train station.
The last Boston Market I was in, the food was so inedible that it doesn’t surprise me that the chain collapsed. In the unlikely event I was hungry and near one of the few surviving ones, I might give ’em another try because they couldn’t be as awful as that last one I visited. And now that I think of it, the same is true of In-and-Out but I don’t feel like going back and changing the color of its checkmark.
What I just wrote about Boston Market and In-and-Out is not true of Chili’s. White Castle, Quiznos or Taco Bell. It might be true of Domino’s as many have told me they’ve improved their food a lot since one of the worst meals I ever had in my life.
I once had a hot chocolate at a Starbuck’s but I don’t drink those anymore and I’ve never liked coffee.
If I’d assigned golden checkmarks to places I really like, there’d be one next to Five Guys and maybe Red Lobster if they’re still like the ones I went to quite a while ago. That company has gone through so many changes, I have no idea how good they are these days.
That long-ago Domino’s aside, the worst meal I’ve had from any place on this list was at a Chili’s. But again, I assume that was an exception since the chain would have been outta business long ago if everything they served was like what I was served.
And lastly, if Raising Cane’s, Carl’s Jr., Del Taco or Sbarro were on this list, they’d all have red checkmarks. And yes, I know a Hardee’s is almost exactly the same as a Carl’s Jr. but I have too much integrity to put a red checkmark next to the name of a restaurant I’ve never set foot in. That is all.
