A man is fuming after his neighbour left a scathing message on his car when he left it parked on the road outside of their house – as they’ve taken things ‘too far’

This man’s neighbours have taken their parking war to a new level. If you don’t have the luxury of a driveway or private parking and rely on roadside spaces, you’ll know how difficult it can be to find somewhere to park outside your home.

In an ideal world, we’d all be able to park our cars directly outside our properties, but that’s not always practical. You don’t own the curbside parking outside your home, so anyone is free to park there if they have free space. This can often mean you have to park further down the road when you come home from work.

Most people don’t mind this and understand that it’s just how the roads work. But one man has found himself at loggerheads with his neighbour after he was forced to park in front of their house instead of his own.

He parked his vehicle on the road in front of his neighbour’s house, and claimed he was unable to park in front of his own home because they had left their vehicle there.

But when he returned to his car, he noticed his neighbours had left a note. Although the note’s contents was quite tame, they hadn’t bothered to write it on paper – as they’d written directly on his driver’s side window instead.

Sharing a picture of the message on Reddit, it read: “Don’t park in front of my house.”

In the caption, the man explained: “It’s a public road with street parking and they were parked in front of my house, so I parked in front of them…”

Commenters on the man’s post were firmly on his side, with many saying that writing on his car was a major overreaction – especially as he had done nothing wrong by parking his car on the roadside.

One person said: “Unless you were parked in front of their driveway, I don’t see what their complaint is. It’s a public street. First come, first served.”

Another added: “This is vandalism done by someone who is entitled. And doesn’t understand the street is for all taxpayers to park, whether they live there or not.”

A third wrote: “Really bugs me that people think you can’t park on the street, even if it happens to be in front of their house. They DO NOT own the public street anywhere along their street. Ridiculous. I would really be interested to hear what their argument could possibly be.”

According to the RAC, it is “perfectly legal” to park outside of someone’s house, unless the vehicle is blocking a driveway or a wheel is over a dropped kerb. They state: “Where no parking controls exist, drivers do not have an ‘automatic spot’ for parking outside their homes.”

What to do if your car is vandalised

Writing on a car is vandalism. Graffiti, slashed tyres, and smashed car windows all count as vandalism, and insurers and the police treat it differently than accidental damage.

According to the AA, you should first contact the police. If you don’t feel in immediate danger, you should call 101 to report your case. Then, document your vehicle by taking photos and contact your insurer.

If you have a comprehensive policy, you can claim malicious damage on your insurance, but it isn’t usually covered in Theft, Fire, and Third-Party (TFTP) policies.
