Lainey Wilson’s engagement to Devlin “Duck” Hodges was no simple matter.
The “Heart Like a Truck” singer, 32, opened up in a TikTok video shared by WTVF-TV in Nashville about how the former NFL player popped the question in February.
“So, I had talked myself into thinking he was going to do it that day. And then I called my sister, I said, ‘He’s going to propose to me today.’ And she was like, ‘I gotta go,’ ” Wilson recalled.
“And then I talked myself out of it because I thought, ‘Man I sure would be upset if I talked myself into this and that don’t happen,’ ” she added.

However, Wilson didn’t need to worry. The country singer explained that she and Hodges had been ”wanting to go see the George Jones estate” and at the time, he told her they needed to “go next week” to see the site.
“And then as we [pulled] up, I realized that there were different plans,” Wilson shared. “So, he had it all set up. He had the candles and the picture frames, and it could not have been more perfect.”
The country singer shared snaps from the romantic proposal in an Instagram post including a shot of the pair holding hands while standing in front of a picturesque building with large windows and a close-up showing five picture frames with photos of the couple arranged in front of the door, surrounded by candles and roses.

“4x4xU forever ” Wilson captioned the series of romantic photos and videos, referring to the track “4x4xU” off her latest album, Whirlwind.
While she may have gotten the ring secured, Wilson noted that when it came to the nuptials themselves, they “hadn’t even started planning” yet.
“We really need to sit down and make that a priority. But I’m sure that it’ll be something that’s just very, very simple, you know?” she joked.
Wilson and Hodges stepped out publicly for the first time at the ACM Awards in May 2023, two years after they began dating in 2021. The country star revealed that she and the former pro-footballer knew “pretty much immediately” that they were “going to be in each other’s lives” for a long time after they first met. She even teased him with some “big” engagement ring choices.
“It just felt that natural, and as a joke, I had texted him some big rings, being like, ‘This is what I like.’ He was like, ‘Oh Lord. I better start saving now,’ ” she recalled.
“We’ve been together for four years. What he did is he went in and designed it and kind of put some of those rings together that I sent him. So I’d have said yes, if it was a tiny little thing. But he messed up,” she joked.
