Julia Fox is finally addressing those rumors about whether or not she’s planning on joining the Real Housewives of New York City cast.

“I did think about it. I’m going to be honest. But I love that show so much and I know that if I went on it, it would ruin it for me,” Fox exclusively told Us Weekly in October at the New York City Ballet’s 2025 Fall Fashion Gala at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater.

“I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it anymore. And it’s one of those things where, as much as I want to do it, I have to preserve and protect the things I love and that give me life,” Fox, 35, continued.

Fox said that she needs the cast to be disconnected from real life, so even if she had a friend or two who also joined the cast, it would feel too close to home.

“To be honest, I want my Housewives [to be] delusional, detached from reality and completely unrelatable,” Fox told Us. “And I know that maybe some people might think that I’m those things, but I promise you I’m not. I just don’t know if I’m Housewife material. That’s a really tall order. These women are one-of-a-kind. Do you know what I mean? The Housewives I grew up with are literally on the same level of importance as my own mother.”

The original Real Housewives of New York City, which included Bethenny Frankel, Luann de Lesseps, Alex McCord, Ramona Singer and Jill Zarin, began in 2008 and ran for 13 seasons until its finale in 2021. It was announced in March 2022 that the series was going to be rebooted for Season 14 with a completely new cast consisting of Sai de Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Jessel Taank and Brynn Whitfield. Racquel Chevremont joined for Season 15, but an official cast for the show’s 16 season has yet to be announced.

Fox told Us that she believes the reboot hasn’t been as successful because “it just felt too relatable.”

“I want to see women fighting about things that I wouldn’t even imagine fighting over, because I would never even have those things or be in that predicament or have these rich people problems. That’s what I want from my Housewives, and I just don’t know if I’d be able to deliver,” she said. “And, ultimately, I don’t want to let down the Bravoverse. They are very cutthroat. I don’t want to let them down. I don’t want to ruin something good for me that I love, that gives me life and makes me happy.”

The team behind The Real Housewives of New York City is working hard to figure out the best path forward for one of Bravo’s most iconic shows. The actress said that if she would consider doing any type of reality series, it would have to be more documentary work.

“I mean, listen, I get asked to do [reality TV] all the time. I’m definitely a great candidate for something like that,” Fox told Us. “But just, I don’t know. I really do protect my private life a lot. Even if it seems like I don’t, I do. I don’t know if I’m there yet.”
