A Brit has been left gobsmacked after visiting the world’s largest petrol station – home to 120 fuel pumps, a huge store, fresh food and the world’s so-called best and largest petrol station toilets
A man was utterly amazed by what he stumbled upon after dedicating “a whole day” to exploring the world’s biggest petrol station – and he could not believed what was inside.
Generally, topping up our motors is not exactly an exhilarating activity that we look forward to, but it is a necessity when prepping for a substantial drive. If you need a pause on your road trip, you might pine for a nibble or a toilet break – and often, a petrol forecourt is the only refuge for miles around.
But stateside in Texas lies the planet’s biggest petrol forecourt, transforming a fuel stop into an experience akin to a jaunt in a mall. At Buc-ee’s, parked just about 47 miles shy of Austin in Luling, you can bask in a realm of fizzy drink fountains, savour staff-prepped Texan barbeque goodies, tuck into scratch-made fudge, Beaver Nuggets, jerky, and freshly-baked treats.
Sprinkling across the States with 50 outposts, and 35 of these bad boys nestled in the heart of Texas, they’ve earned an informal rep as the refueling hubs with the biggest and cleanest restrooms going. Buc-ee’s has married old-school charm with the zippiness of today to reinvent the travel break experience for their guests.
Popular TikTok food reviewer, Tod, who’s all the rage online with over 800,000 followers, dished out his verdict on this mammoth petrol plaza after paying his first-ever visit not too long ago.
Buc-ee’s has taken the crown for the world’s largest petrol station, boasting over 75,000 square feet and a whopping 120 fuel pumps. The title was previously held by another Buc-ee’s location in Sevierville, Tennessee, which is slightly smaller at 74,707 square feet and also features the world’s longest car wash.
A TikTok sensation, @eatingwithtod, spent an entire day exploring the vastness of Buc-ee’s in Luling, Texas. He shared his amazement: “This is Buc-ee’s in Texas which has 120 petrol pumps lined up in a row, then you walk inside and it’s a massive convenience store with sweets, bakeries, merch, and their world famous clean toilets. They’ve also got a smoked meat section – fresh brisket on the board.”
Tod documented his culinary adventure, starting with the three meat bun. Despite its plain appearance, he was impressed: “I got the three meat bun and I’m not going to lie, it looks a little beige but for a gas station the meat was smoking. I love the sweetness, the barbecue sauce, the bread.”
He described the bun as “soft, warm and pillowy” and expressed his eagerness to have it again. He didn’t stop there; Tod also indulged in a sausage wrapped in a tortilla, priced at $4.99 [£3.91], and dipped it in honey mustard. “This surprised me, it was fantastic,” he said. “The sausage wasn’t cheap or plasticky,” he continued, humorously adding, “Bathe me in it,”.
The pastry section was not overlooked, as Tod tried a paddle tail, costing him $3.79 [£2.97]. “It’s like a cross between a cinnamon roll and a croissant,” he described, before giving his verdict: “The pastry is light and airy and I love the kick of cinnamon.”
Tod was gobsmacked upon discovering a mammoth wall of beef jerky and while he did grab some Korean BBQ-flavoured jerky, he wasn’t too impressed, confessing it lacked the punchy flavour he expected, noting there was ‘not enough flavour on it’. He also showcased the petrol station’s immense back wall, stacked with soft drink dispensers.
Shelling out $4.99 [£3.91] initially, Tod mentioned that you can snag refills at a bargain price of $1.99 [£1.56].
Tod declared that the legendary Beaver nuggets are sure to “blow your socks off”. With his video stirring chatter online, one user wrote: “This is so Texas,” and another greeted, “Welcome to Texas, buddy.”
Another fan voiced their wish, saying: “Need this in the UK,” as someone else reminisced about spotting the mega petrol pumps while driving from Dallas to Houston, expressing shock at the sheer number: “I remember driving past these petrol pumps the other week driving from Dallas to Houston…. couldn’t believe there was so many!”.
Another TikTok aficionado missed the Texas spot greatly: “Bucees was my favourite place when I lived in Texas I miss it so much.”
Meanwhile, another added their two cents: “I went to one in Alabama, OH MY LORD I got so much stuff. I even bought a Halloween blanket. I’d buy so much more if I go again. We definitely need a UK one.”
