A husky became “reactive” and “aggressive” after witnessing his owner get attacked by a dog when he was younger, and his owners were floored by his reaction to meeting his new sibling at a dog shelter

A “reactive” husky met his new sibling at a dog shelter and his adorable reaction has melted people’s hearts. Introducing an established pet dog to a new animal sibling can be tricky, especially if they’re known to be reactive.

An eight-year-old husky named Wiley saw his owner Sally Compton get attacked by a dog at a dog park when he was just three-years-old and it led to him becoming reactive to new dogs, especially if they were male.

Still, despite not being a big fan of other dogs, Wiley’s owners worried he was bored and hoped to introduce him to a sibling.

The couple felt “nervous” about bringing a new dog home due to Wiley’s reactivity, so they took him with them to the shelter to meet any potential matches. That way, if they found a dog they liked and connected with, they “could try and introduce them”.

They met a one-year-old German shepherd husky mix who had been at the shelter for five months and decided to do a “soft introduction”, taking the new dog to meet Wiley while he sat in the back of their car.

Instantly, both dogs’ tails started wagging and they put their noses close together to sniff one another.

After that, the couple “took them to a Sniffspot so they could meet off-leash in a controlled environment”.

In a TikTok video documenting the entire encounter, Sally explained: “I was so nervous that he was going to be aggressive but I couldn’t believe what I saw next.

“They almost immediately started playing and chasing each other, I literally had not seen Wiley get along so quickly with another dog in years.”

The footage captured the two dogs running around together in the snow and playfully jumping up together.

Sally added: “We brought her home the same day and the rest is history.”

The couple named their new addition Disco. In the caption accompanying the clip, Sally elaborated: “The story of introducing my reactive husky Wiley to our new rescue, Disco.

“Renting a private dog park for the introduction helped a ton with letting us know that they were meant to be best friends.”

Speaking to Newsweek, Sally said: “I couldn’t believe it but they immediately started playing together, and she loved chasing Wiley. I hadn’t seen him play or run like that in several years. We decided it was a perfect fit.”

Upon taking Disco home, the dogs’ bond continued to grow and flourish.

Sally added: “They immediately continued playing together in the backyard. It has been a year since then and she has definitely taken up the role of annoying little sister.

“She always wants to be around him and constantly nibbles his neck, licks his mouth and sleeps next to him. He tolerates it and acts grumpy, but we can tell that he is a lot happier and more energetic with her around.”
