How To Activate First-Person Mode
Unlike romancing the Grim Reaper, viewing the world from your Sim’s eyes is as quick as a couple of button presses.
To enter first-person mode, all you need to do is press the following buttons based on your console.
|
Console |
What To Press |
|---|---|
|
PC |
Press Shift and Tab (at the same time) |
|
PlayStation |
Press and Hold R3 |
|
Xbox |
Press and Hold RS |
How To Exit First-Person Mode
To exit first-person mode, you simply need to press the same buttons you did to enter the mode. So, if you are on PC, just press Shift and Tab together again.
How To Use First-Person Mode
Once you’re in first-person mode, there are a few things to be aware of in order to make the most of the experience.
Moving your mouse around will allow you to look around the game world. On either PlayStation or Xbox, this involves just moving around your right analog stick.
If there are multiple Sims in your household, you can seamlessly switch between their perspectives by pressing Space.
You can access the game’s interface while in first-person mode by pressing Shift or the touchpad.
How To Move Around In First-Person Mode
Moving your Sim around the house is as simple as clicking on the desired location and selecting the ‘Move Here’ command that pops up.
You’re not restricted to moving around in the room that your Sim is in. To leave the room, right-click the door for the ‘Go Here’ option to appear. On Playstation, this can be done by pressing ‘O’, and on Xbox, you just need to press ‘B’.
How To Interact With Items And Objects In First-Person Mode
You can interact with the many items and objects in The Sims 4 by simply clicking anything within your Sim’s view.
Tips For First-Person Mode
Here are a few helpful tips to make the most of first-person mode and avoid some of its quirks.
Expect Minor Glitches And Animation Bugs
First-person mode isn’t perfect. Because the game’s animations were created for third-person play, you’ll likely notice a few oddities like floating hands, clipping through furniture, or strange camera shakes during certain interactions.
These bugs are harmless, but they can break immersion if you’re trying to film or take screenshots. If this happens, briefly switching out of first-person mode can help reset the view.
Be Careful During Romantic Or Close Interactions
Certain interactions, such as woohooing or cuddling, can cause the camera to behave unpredictably or clip through walls and objects. If you want to play through those moments without visual issues, it’s better to return to the regular third-person view before triggering them.
Adjust For Motion Sickness
First-person mode has a very narrow field of view that can feel disorienting or even cause motion sickness during long play sessions. If you start to feel dizzy or queasy, take a break or switch back to the standard camera. Slower, more deliberate camera movements can also help reduce the effect.
Watch Out For Texture Distortion
You might encounter missing or warped textures depending on how you angle your view, especially in tight indoor spaces. This happens because the game doesn’t fully render areas your Sim isn’t ‘meant’ to see. To fix this, try adjusting the camera angle slightly or exiting and re-entering first-person mode.
Why Is First-Person Mode Not Working?
If you’ve tried to enter first-person mode in The Sims 4 but nothing happens, don’t worry, this is a common issue with a few simple fixes.
- Make sure you’re using the correct controls for your platform and holding the button long enough.
- Keep your game fully updated, as some console versions need the latest patch for first-person mode.
- Disable mods or custom content, which can interfere with camera features.
- Restart the game to fix temporary glitches or input issues.
- On Steam, the Shift + Tab keybind may conflict with the overlay; change it in Steam’s In-Game settings.
