A new remaster of the original Gears is on the way, as Microsoft has announced Gears of War: Reloaded for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and Steam. It’s coming to Game Pass on day one for Ultimate subscribers. This is just the latest remaster from Microsoft, following the successful debut of Oblivion Remastered in April.

Gears of War: Reloaded arrives on August 26 for $40, and it’ll also be available to stream via Xbox Cloud Gaming. The game supports cross-play and cross-progression on all platforms. Anyone who already owns the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will get Reloaded for free.

Reloaded features 4K resolution 120fps support, and multiplayer. “This is the definitive way to experience the game that started it all,” Microsoft said.

“As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever,” Microsoft said.

Reloaded supports local split-screen or online for, with two-player co-op for the campaign and up to eight players in multiplayer. A Microsoft account is not required to play, but is required to unlock “full cross-platform functionality” in terms of enabling cross-progression.
