PSA: don't touch jellyfish even if washed ashore.I'm in Llandudno for a holiday. It's lovely. During low tide, the west shore goes out so far it's bonkers – and you can walk around and find cool things. There are loads of jellyfish here. Absolute unit #1: Lion's mane jellyfish. These have very painful stings. This danger pancake was so big that I almost missed it as it sort of blended in to the beach. This is the biggest jellyfish I have ever seen and apparently they get way bigger. The phone and hand really didn't do it justice. Absolute unit #2: barrel jellyfish These have mild stings. Smaller in than the lion's mane I saw, but I had my rucksack for comparison purposes this time. Here's a compass jellyfish Some cool little blue jellyfish Note: jellyfish are already dead by the time you find one. They're 95% water and dehydrate within minutes of washing ashore. They're basically a digestive system with some tentacles. They don't have a brain. But they can still sting. submitted by /u/CromulentEmbiggensJG |
