GOG has announced more titles for its Game Preservation Program, with the first four Devil May Cry games headlining the new arrivals. This announcement was made on the 10th anniversary of Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, and all four games are now available to purchase.

Devil May Cry 1-3 will be available as part of the Devil May Cry HD Collection, and like other games sold by GOG, these will be DRM-free versions that have been fully optimized for modern systems. The improvements here include stability tweaks, compatibility with Windows 10 and 11 operating systems, and support for cloud saves.

While the middle chapter of the Devil May Cry trilogy is a bit of a letdown, the first and third games in this collection are still considered to be series highlights. Devil May Cry established the franchise formula with its stylish combat and nearly unstoppable protagonist Dante, while Devil May Cry 3 fleshed out the lore of the series and properly introduced Dante’s brother Vergil, who has become a fan-favorite character over the years.

For Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, the changes here are the same as the HD Collection. Released in 2015, this new version of the 2008 game improved it with polished gameplay, new cutscenes, and of course, the option to play as Vergil. If you’re interested, you can grab all of the games at a pretty good discount right now.

Game preservation has been an interesting topic of discussion recently, as numerous initiatives are underway. GOG’s preservation program kicked off last year and has so far seen classic titles like Dino Crisis and Breath of Fire 4 updated for modern PC systems, and last month, the publisher behind exquisitely beautiful books about video games, Lost in Cult, announced that it’ll be releasing physical editions of acclaimed indie games, starting with Immortality, The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow, and Thank Goodness You’re Here.

Like its work in print, each of these games will be accompanied by numerous extras as the company aims to redefine what a physical release can and should be.
