It’s been nearly five years since Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls remake released, but fans are once again arguing about whether it’s a better game than the original or soulless “garbage”.
With all of the constant calls for a Bloodborne remake, you’d think that FromSoftware fans were all for the studio’s beloved games getting a fresh coat of paint for a new generation. History has told us that’s very much not the case, though, and that’s being proven by all the renewed arguments about Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls remake.
Despite reviewing very well when it launched nearly five years ago at the end of 2020, a lot of FromSoftware fans have rallied against the Demon’s Souls remake for how it “butchered” the vibe and visuals of the original game. That’s a long-running debate that’s popped up several times over the past few years, and it’s just been reignited in time for the remake’s fifth anniversary.
FromSoft Fans Are Fighting About Whether The Demon’s Souls Remake Is A Better Game Than The Original
Frustrating Soul Versus Welcoming Soulless
The debate seems to have been kicked off by Twitter user elbethium, who randomly tweeted that the Demon’s Souls remake is “superior to the OG game in every way possible”, which is a very strong statement that caught the attention of seemingly every FromSoft fan out there.
OG Demon’s Souls defenders have already made their feelings on the game clear in the past, but that tweet kickstarted the fire once again. One popular response from fromsoftserve points out that, while the game does look “better”, but that Bluepoint’s spin on the game removes a ton of the personality from the original.
The Fat Official is perhaps the best example of the difference between FromSoft and Bluepoint’s takes on Demon’s Souls.
Twitter user SmoughTown was also on the side of the original Demon’s Souls, although his tweet was a little more fiery and called Bluepoint’s remake “garbage”. They say that it’s a good thing it’s accessible, but that the art direction and vibes were “murdered”, which seems to be the general consensus on what sets the two apart.
There aren’t too many tweets defending elbethium’s original stance that the remake is better, but some fans do at least think that Bluepoint’s version is a good game that can stand alongside the original as a different take. It seems that’s not what most FromSoft fans think, though, and we can expect this argument to happen every time anyone talks about the remake.
