Summary
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has drastically increased the number of ads that players see, with weapon bundles now advertised on the weapons loadout screens.
- Ads are now also included in the Events tab too, and a lot of players are starting to feel like all the advertising is too much.
- On social media, fans have been calling the practice “pathetic”, given that Black Ops 6 is a full-priced game, while others claim that they’re thinking about putting the game down for good.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has been through a number of controversies ever since its release last year, angering fans on a pretty consistent schedule. We’ve seen complaints about ripping off other games, the use of generative AI, and the ever-present complaints about skill-based matchmaking. It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a new controversy, but Season 4 has unsurprisingly delivered.
Season 4 kicked off recently, and on top of various new additions, Activision appears to have quietly added new advertisements to the game that can be seen directly on the weapon loadout screen (thanks IGN). From the examples shared by fans, it looks as though these ads are attempting to sell players weapon bundles directly on the screens on which you actually set up your weapons.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Has Introduced Ads In Loadout Screens, And Fans Aren’t Happy
Unsurprisingly, the people that have already shelled out $70 for their game aren’t too keen on all the blatant advertisements that have been crammed in wherever they can fit. The Black Ops 6 subreddit has been on fire over the addition of these ads, with one user called ORourke27 saying that the game now “feels like one of those free cell phone games”, and that Activision’s behavior is “pathetic”.

Call of Duty needs to go further back in history – not further forward.
In a completely different post, another Reddit user called ScaryGent claims that these ads are “going to be the thing that makes me quit”, while another user admits this kind of thing makes them want to leave, but bemoans that “there is no real alternative”. Hopefully, Battlefield 6 will actually come along and give Call of Duty a bit of competition for once.
Another post by Tideshark also takes aim at the ads that have been added to the Events page of the game too, as players joke that they can’t tell the difference between the console game and Call of Duty mobile anymore. Safe to say, Call of Duty players are pretty sick of being advertised to, and they may end up doing the exact opposite of what Activision is hoping for.
