I've been to the Britannia in Aberdyfi many, many times. I don't care if the food is good or crap, if the carpets inside are filthy, whatever. Once you've got a table on that balcony it's incredibly hard to leave. To me it's the perfect pub, not trying to be gastro, or craft-beery, just a great place to get mashed with incredible views. My 60yo mum got completely hammered when we did a joint holiday and fell over the bollard outside, and started singing on one of the jettys! I remember walking there one year and hearing a choir practice nearby, brought tears to my eyes! I think my record intake there was probably 7 pints and 2 bowls of chips. The clinking noise of the rigging on the boats just adds to the fog of joy. EDIT: Overwhelmed by the response here! We Brits love our pubs, such a shame we've lost so many. FWIW I live in N. Herts but grew up in near Brum (Four Oaks, so the Crown and the Oaks were my locals, and the Barley Mow in Mere Green with the girls from my school). submitted by /u/JuggernautUpbeat |
