Your home is your sanctum, a verifiable fortress of solitude. Allowing someone else to stay there, disrupting your daily routine, and just generally existing is no small thing. While there’s no better act than going out of your way to do something for someone else in their time of need, especially when it consists of providing them shelter or lodging they otherwise wouldn’t have, it doesn’t take long at all for little indiscretions, perceived or otherwise, to gnaw away at the goodwill and quickly get your back up and wishing that your guest would just leave… not this stops you from putting a smile on your face and trying to be a good host.

As is often said, guests, like fish begin to smell after three days. And that’s about the length of time you can suitably put up with being in close quarters with even your most loved and tolerable family members. Of course, people you’re already living with present a suitable exception (most of the time at least.)

This couple confessed that they felt themselves unwilling to harbor any more friends or family in their 4200 square meter McMansion. Which was straining their relationships with those closest to them. Were they wrong? Who’s to say. But the introverts among us totally get where they’re coming from.
