An employee of high street bakery chain Greggs has opened up on the ‘biggest pet peeve’ he experiences regularly amongst customers that always leaves him annoyed
A Greggs employee has vented his frustration over his “biggest customer pet peeve”, admitting sometimes he feels like slamming his head against a wall. Taking to Reddit, the Greggs worker explained the issue regularly arises during drinks orders.
“My biggest pet peeve from a customer is when I ask them what drink they want (usually with their deal) and then they name drink X,” he began in a post. He continued, explaining that he always repeats orders back to the customer to avoid any misinterpretation. Once it has been made clear that he has understood the order, the Greggs employee said he begins to pour the drink.
“Then the customer finishes paying and I say, ‘I’m just going to grab your drink X, I grab it and as I put it on the counter I say, ‘Here is your drink X, enjoy’,” he added.
The part that gets to him often follows, however, when customers “come back two minutes later” to say that wasn’t the drink they asked for.
“Then why didn’t you correct me or why did you continue to say yes/okay after I repeated myself at least four times?” the employee fumed.
He closed by begging: “If you hear me say the wrong drink, then please tell me it’s the wrong drink. Because now there’s a wasted drink down the sink and I want to slam my head in the wall.”
Several other members of staff shared similar grievances, meanwhile. “Someone asked for a large drink, I gave them a large drink,” one person recalled. “Two minutes later, they came back and told another colleague it wasn’t large enough and we had to explain to them that they had space at the top for milk… who’d I told them about twice.”
A second agreed: “This happens way too much. Another pet peeve I have is when they have a hot sandwich that needs toasting, so I am like, ‘I’ll just go put this on for you first’ because it takes a long time.
“But while I am walking away they will tell me their whole order. And I’m thinking, I am gonna come back to the till anyway, its such a little thing but it goes through me because i ask them to repeat it anyway.”
Whilst a third Greggs worker recalled: “Had a new one last week – some guy asked for a novelty bun, while I was putting it on the till he pulls the glass back and grabs the novelty bun himself to give it to his daughter.”
“I have never in my life heard of this one,” admitted the original poster. “People’s inability to wait two minutes is diabolical.”
Launching ahead of Easter in shops nationwide, Greggs is expanding its lunch and iced drinks offerings with new flavours, alongside two seasonal favourites returning to shops for a limited time. The new options offer people who prefer sweet and savoury treats a nice balance of new items to try.
Coming to selected stores, there are two new iced drink options for customers looking for a fruity flavour.
The Cherry Lemonade offers a “sweet” cherry-flavoured twist on a classic, while the Cherry and Mango Cooler provides a “tropical escape with every sip”.
