Rosie and Ben have been documenting their Victorian end terrace renovation on social media, and were left stunned by the discoveries scattered across their attic floor

A couple renovating their Victorian end terrace home have revealed a series of unexpected finds after exploring the attic for the first time. Rosie and Ben, both in their early twenties, have been sharing their renovation journey on social media whilst grafting away at stripping their home’s interior to modernise it.

Posting a series of images on TikTok, they wrote: “We finally went up into the attic and found all of this scattered across the floor. Every photo tells a little story. Which one would you have kept?” Among the discoveries was a weathered children’s metal chair with foam padding that appeared to have developed mould, tucked away in the attic’s corner. “Someone’s childhood left behind,” the couple remarked.

Rosie and Ben also uncovered a diary containing “gossip” written by a former resident named Kate, prompting them to ask their followers: “Should we read it?”

Other treasures included an old acoustic guitar missing its strings, and a 400-day anniversary clock housed within its glass dome – named for its capacity to run for around 400 days without needing to be rewound.

There was also jewellery in the form of a silver hallmarked heart necklace still in its original box, alongside a white floral clutch bag, leading Rosie and Ben to ponder: “From a memorable event?”

The pair then revealed a set of Martell cognac glasses, which they confessed they were “definitely keeping”. They closed by revealing they had also unearthed an old kettle, a floral framed mirror and bath tiles, all of which the duo described as “Very 80s,”.

And the last item shared by Rosie and Ben was a novel titled Hannah’s Wharf by Connie Monk, published in 1989.

“Love all these,” one TikTok user responded. “Reminded me of times at my grandma’s house. Sad they’re gone, but such good memories.”

Others encouraged Rosie and Ben to delve into the diary, meanwhile.

In a follow-up video, they did just that, revealing a collection of “nonsense” poems and anecdotes seemingly penned by several children – including Kate, Delia, Ruth and Lisa.

“There were some questionable bits in here that we couldn’t include,” Rosie and Ben joked.

One entry read: “The bunny has a shiny nose. But this he cannot mend. Because his little powder puff. Is on the other end.”

Another said: “The cow stood on the railway track. A train was coming fast. The train got off the railway track. To let the cow go past.”

And a third page proclaimed that “mods and modettes rule the world” and also mentioned Paul Weller, lead singer of The Jam and The Style Council, and singer Dee C Lee, who collaborated with Weller in the latter in 1984.
