A London woman was shocked to discover a tracking device in her car after her iPhone sent an alert while she was driving – and couldn’t believe who was responsible for it
A woman has urged others to stay vigilant after sharing her terrifying experience of finding an unknown tracker attached to her car.
Small and portable trackers can be an excellent way to keep tabs on your belongings, such as keys, phones, or luggage. Some parents even choose to attach them to their young children when visiting unfamiliar or crowded places. However, they can also be used for sinister purposes. Since Apple launched the AirTags in 2021, increasing numbers of people, particularly women, have reported alarming incidents where AirTags and other miniature trackers were deployed as stalking devices that could be slipped into a handbag or attached to a vehicle.
Fortunately, if you own an iPhone, your device will alert you if there’s a tracker nearby that’s following your movements. However, if this occurs, they can still prove challenging to locate, particularly if you’re unsure where to look.
This was precisely what happened to Dina Jalaf, 27, from London. Taking to TikTok, she revealed she’d been driving to grab some dinner at McDonald’s when her phone suddenly issued a notification stating it had detected a Loshall tag travelling alongside her.
“What do I do? Like, how on earth do I search my car?” she asked before the video ended, leaving viewers concerned for her wellbeing.
In a follow-up video, Dina explained that the notification had prompted her to drive straight to her nearest police station rather than heading home following the alert. She remembered talking to the receptionist and detailing how she was being monitored but couldn’t locate the tracking device in her vehicle.
After providing her information, Dina was advised to head to the car dealership where they could remove and dispose of the tracker.
She continued by telling her audience that nobody had access to her vehicle apart from her mum and dad, leaving her baffled about who could have planted the tracker… or so she believed.
In a follow-up clip, she disclosed that she’d worked out who was responsible for placing the tracker in her vehicle, revealing: “It was my parents. My parents put the tracker in my car. It wasn’t a stranger, I don’t have a stalker, unless you count my parents as the stalkers.”
Dina explained that her mum and dad had rung her to come clean about it, though she remained mystified as to why they’d installed the tracking device initially.
“Am I done with them? Yes,” she informed viewers at the conclusion of the clip.
Numerous people rushed to the comments section to voice their opinions, with many siding with Dina that her parents had overstepped the mark.
“As a parent, It would never occur to me to track my adult children. That’s insane,” one individual remarked.
Another viewer commented: “Did they not have anything to say for themselves? It put you in fear for your life. Interesting they only confessed after you mentioned going to the police. I’m so sorry this happened.”
In response, Dina stated: “They offered to explain. I told them I’m not interested in hearing whatever justification they have.”
However, another person suggested: “Maybe incase the car got stolen or you went missing?”.
